Eclectic Modern

Stephen Tomar and Stuart Lampert

For this Trousdale home Stephen Tomar and Stuart Lampert designed a neutral modern theme as a backdrop to feature the art work that the owner had collected from Europe. They decided on a monochromatic vertical stripe wall covering by Maya Romanoff for the foyer, living room, dining area and corridors. Two custom console tables in black high polish mahogany finish by Stephen Tomar Furniture flank the foyer entry.

The spacious living room features two seating areas. The first is focused on the fireplace with a stainless steel surround and rich black lacquered walls which emphasize the art above the fireplace. The second seating area adjacent to the bar overlooks the pool and the view of Los Angeles, the mountains and the Pacific Ocean.

Stephen and Stuart consciously designed the room to focus on the view as the most important element of the space. The custom bed with storage, glass and chrome coffee table and ultra unique magazine rack that houses a flat screen television are all conceived and built by Stephen Tomar Furniture.

As a departure from the rest of the design, the designers built a completely new media room with the goal of making the space fun, exciting and comfortable. They selected a Moorish theme and upholstered all of the walls with acoustic sound proofing and concealed surround sound speakers. Prominent in the room is an electronic back-lit piece from the client’s art collection. The 5’ deep custom wall-to-wall seating is layered with multiple patterned pillows in fabrics by Brunschwig & Fils, Duralee and Pindler and Pindler. Large brass round Turkish trays are placed on each of the ottomans to double as coffee tables.
