What sets the Robyn Newmark approach apart?

I believe there are two key areas that set me apart. The first is when a client comes into my spa, they often have a list of critiques and criticisms of their image. But what I see is their potential and to bring out the beauty that they often don't see in themselves. Second, I look for treatments that are safe and effective and have long-lasting results.

What beauty trends have caught Newmark Beauty’s attention recently?

My favorite beauty trend right now is brow lamination. It originated in Russia and quickly made its way west. This treatment makes your brows look fuller and shapely. Brow lamination can solve many of your brow concerns, such as gaps, thinning, over-plucked, and unruly brows, by moving and smoothing the hair in a more vertical direction. Brow lamination pairs nicely with brow tinting or microblading.

Tell us about the latest beauty technology that excites you right now.

The latest technology that excites me is all the breakthroughs being made in the field of regenerative medicine and how it can be effectively applied to anti-aging. Stem cell therapies allow the body to repair or regenerate aging cells. We can rebuild new collagen to prevent, slow down, and even reverse aging, both internally and externally. This is the future of beauty.

What is the difference between permanent and semi-permanent beauty treatments?

I distinguish the difference between permanent and semi-permanent in the longevity of the treatments. Semi-permanent treatments need to be refreshed every 3-8 weeks, such as eyelash extensions, facials, brow lamination. Permanent treatments are services once completed that don't need to be redone or only refreshed every one or two years. These include permanent makeup, stem cell therapies, and permanent hair reduction. Most of my clients use a combination of both permanent and semi-permanent services.

What key lifestyle choices support lasting beauty?

One’s lifestyle choices directly affect the way your skin looks and feels today and how it ages. You can boost the health of your skin by protecting your skin from the sun, maintaining a healthy diet, good hydration, plenty of beauty sleep, and exercise are just a few suggestions. But true beauty also comes from the inside out. So, I also try to maintain a positive attitude and a grateful heart.

What types of products are worth the splurge in the long run?

There are countless amazing products in this industry. But not all products are created equal. What I look for in both my spa and to sell on my online store are the quality of ingredients, the concentration these products have, and, most importantly, their results. Ingredients such as retinols, vitamin C, antioxidants, and hyaluronic acid are great and effective. But they are also expensive. If your product doesn't reflect that in the price, it's highly likely that product won't be as effective.

In what ways should beauty routines change with the seasons?

All of us want to look good, no matter what the season. There are some constants no matter the season: sunscreen, eye cream, masks, and moisturizers. However, your beauty routine needs to be adjusted for the seasons. In spring and summer, the sun, heat and humidity are the problem. Sunscreen and hydration are important. Acne is more prone in summer, so control your oil production and wear lighter makeup. In fall and winter the air is dryer, so use of thicker healing products is good. It's also a great time for peels and skin resurfacing.

How can people supplement spa beauty treatments from home during quarantine?

I’ve had so much fun during this quarantine by going back to basics. Skincare was originally formulated from natural ingredients. You can find most of these natural ingredients in your refrigerator or pantry or garden. A raw potato is a great skin brightener, an avocado mask a great moisturizer, oatmeal scrub for dead skin, papaya enzyme peels for a youthful glow. Also coconut oil, cinnamon, sugar, honey, cucumber, lemon juice, aloe vera, fresh mint, and tea bags make for some nice beauty treatments. I have several recipes on my website.

4 Pantry-Created Beauty Treatments

Acne Mask/Spot Treatment Paste

Ingredients

½ mashed banana
1 tsp. green tea powder
½ tsp. turmeric powder
1 tbs. apple cider vinegar
3-5 drops tea tree oil (if possible)

Directions

Mix together all ingredients to create the mask/paste. Apply to entire face as a mask or directly to pimples as a spot treatment. Leave on for 15-20 minutes. Rinse mask/paste off afterwards.

Brightening Scrub

Ingredients

2 tbs. honey
1 tbs. lemon juice (or 3-5 drops lemon oil)
1.5 tbs. sugar
1 egg white

Directions

Mix together all ingredients to create the scrub. Apply to skin while gently scrubbing. Leave on for 15-20 minutes. Scrub again as you rinse, revealing bright, smooth skin.

Pore-Minimizing Peel

Ingredients

1 chayote squash
1 tbs. lemon juice (or 2-3 drops lemon oil)
1 egg white

Directions

Blend all ingredients together to create the peel. Apply to entire face. Leave on for 15-20 minutes. Rinse peel off afterwards.

Alternatives

The chayote squash can be used alone to make things even simpler. Using a carrot peeler, peel the skin off of the chayote squash until you get to the flesh. Then use the peeler to peel wide but thin flesh-like pieces of the chayote squash. Lay the pieces directly on skin, under the eyes, around the mouth, and over brown spots.

Also, you can rub the skins and the juice of the chayote squash into the back of your hands and arms for a quick hand rejuvenation and peel—this helps to keep hands looking young and bright.

*Note: Chayote is often overlooked because it not a common ingredient, but it can be found in any produce market and has stronger enzymes than papaya.

Hydration Mask

Ingredients

½ avocado
1 tsp. green tea powder (or green tea water concentration)
1 tbs. honey
1 tbs. olive oil

Directions

Mix together all ingredients to create the mask. Apply to skin. Leave on for 20-30 minutes. Rinse mask off afterwards.
