EYE MEDICAL CENTER OF FRESNO
Dr. Chahal is an oculofacial plastic surgeon dedicated to the rejuvenation and reconstruction of the area surrounding the eyes and face. An oculofacial plastic surgeon has dual training in both eye surgery and plastic and reconstructive surgery of the face. His specialty combines the microsurgical techniques of ophthalmology with the aesthetic principles of plastic surgery. He is one of the few cosmetic and reconstructive surgeons who is a member of both the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons (ASOPRS) and the American Board of Ophthalmology. He was born and raised in Fresno, and attended Bullard High School prior to graduating UC, Berkeley with honors. His father worked in the Central Valley as a surgeon for over 35 years. His specialty encompasses art, creativity, and science. He uses a modern and sensitive approach to help restore the natural, youthful appearance of his patients. His holistic approach embodies the new generation of oculofacial plastic surgeons.
Why did you choose this specialty?
In many ways, our face is how we see ourselves and how we project ourselves to the world. As such, our faces are important to our personal identity and play a critical role in communicating our emotions. Treating the face is profoundly rewarding and incorporates elements of plastic surgery, dermatology, ophthalmology, maxillofacial surgery, and more. I love the challenge and art of applying these diverse principles to each patient’s unique anatomy and goals.
What is your advice to patients considering Cosmetic procedures? Eyelid surgery?
While there are many qualified and competent surgeons out there, my best advice is to find someone you are comfortable with and whose judgment you trust. I encourage everyone to empower themselves before any procedure; take time to think through the implications of various treatments before proceeding, and feel free to solicit second opinions when in doubt.
What do you do for fun outside of the operating room?
One of the biggest perks of returning to the Central Valley has been reuniting with the people who matter most—my friends and family. If I’m not operating, odds are, I’m with them and hopefully outside somewhere!
